What We Do
Preserving a Legacy
Cacapon & Lost Rivers Land Trust (CLRLT or the Trust) is a small but effective non-profit, non-governmental organization on a mission to protect the Cacapon and Lost Rivers watershed. Committed to healthy rivers, lush forests and farms, and cherished rural heritage, we strive to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Championing a Cause that Transcends Size
Though modest in size, the Trust’s impact is nothing short of extraordinary. We have protected 15,000 acres since our founding in 1990 and are the first West Virginia land trust to have achieved accreditation by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission (in 2012).
Our focus on protecting ecologically and economically important areas through a network of natural land hubs and corridors send benefits rippling beyond the borders of the Cacapon and Lost Rivers watershed. The Cacapon watershed’s health influences water quality and quantity, as well as air quality, across communities from here at home to the Chesapeake Bay.
This influence is achieved through meaningful partnerships with landowners and partner organizations. We have worked with over 60 local landowners over the last 35 years, and we convene the Cacapon Watershed Collaborative (CWC), a diverse coalition of non-profit, public, and private entities. Together, CWC members developed a watershed-wide strategic conservation plan and are now implementing (and monitoring) our strategies to achieve common objectives that benefit our community.
